Replacing the power steering pump
on an
'86 Audi 5000s is a very easy procedure.
Start by loosening the adjustment
bolt for the
belt (loosening the bolts on the
pulley first can save
some work later.) Then remove the
hoses (they are
each a different size and can't
be mixed up.)
Next, remove the mounting brackets
and the
pump can be pulled out of the car.
After transferring
the two mounting brackets and pulley,
the new pump
can go in.

This plugged convertor and split
muffler out of an '87 Firebird
required a new exhaust system from
the y-pipe back.

This EGR valve I took out of a
Ford Aerostar mini van
would not close fully and triggered
the emission light
to come on. Unfortunately, the
customer could not
afford to replace it, so I cleaned
it as best I could with
carb cleaner and ground down the
pintle slightly
so it would not trigger the emission
light.

The seized caliper on the passenger
side of this Audi
was not safe and had to be replaced.
To unhook the
parking brake cable, the adjuster
had to be backed
off to get some slack in the cable.
The new caliper
also came with pads and a mounting
bracket ,
all ready to bolt in.

This CV shaft came out of a '90
Dodge Caravan. The outer joint
was worn, which caused a vibration.
To get the shaft out,
the caliper and rotor must be removed
first.
Also, the boots have to be filled
with grease (which came
with the CV shaft) before installation.
1993 Ford Taurus
This car came in with a severe
vibration when braking.
The car was equipped with four
wheel disc brakes, so
all the rotors were checked for
runout. Each had
approx. three thousandths runout,
so all four rotors
were machined and the vibration
was gone.
The airbag light on a '91 Taurus
was on for no reason,
so the 2 circuit clockspring was
replaced with a 5 circuit
one. The air-bag backup power supply
had to be
disconnected so that the air-bag
would not accidentally
be activated.
1988 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport
An inspection revealed a leak in
the transmission
pan that was made worse by tightening
the pan
bolts. A new gasket was installed,
along with
a tranny fluid filter since the
pan was off anyway.
This car also had a large oil leak
from the oil pump drive.
It turned out the O-ring had hardened,
so a new one
was put in. (to get the oil pump
drive out,
the throttle body had to come out.)
1987 Pontiac Firebird
This car had a no start problem,
so a number
of tests were performed: fuel pressure
test, timing
chain free play, distributor firing
order and injector
resistance. (All tests were good.)
The spark plugs
were replaced because they were
fouled. The catalytic
convertor was removed and the car
started fine
without it. The plugged convertor
was replaced,
as well as the rest of the exhaust
system.
