Here you can see the valve cover and the unusual shape
of the
intake manifold. Also, note where the sparkplugs go through
the valvecover.
This is a shot of the serpentine belt setup. When removing
it, make
you know how it goes back on. Be sure to have the
marks on the
cam and crankshaft in their proper places.
With the head and intake manifold removed, you can see
the intake
and exhaust camshafts. Notice how the exhaust cam
is driven by the
gear on the intake cam. If the cams are to be removed,
there is a hole
in the gear of the exhaust cam where a bolt must go to
hold the sub-
gear and main gear together. When installing the cam
bearing caps,
loosen or torque them in three stages or you will
break the cam.

Once both camshafts are removed you can see the lifters,
where the
cam lobes rest. You must mark these as shown here because
they are
different thicknesses and must go back to the same spot
they came from.
Overall this engine is relatively easy to work on,
as long as you follow the directions correctly.
