CV Boot Replacement On 1991 Ford Taurus 3.0L

Remove wheel and tire assembly

Remove hub nut and washer.

Remove caliper guide pins and wire caliper to spring to hold out

of the way.

Remove pinch bolt from lower balljoint and discard.

Remove ABS sensor (if equipped).

Pry down on control arm and pull spindle out of the way

(Do not damage balljoint boot)

Note: If both axles are removed, shipping plugs must be installed to prevent differential side gears from moving. If gears move, transaxle must be removed to realign side gears.(If shipping plugs are not available Deep sockets will work.

Pry Between inner cv joint and transaxle case with prybar to remove cv axle from transaxle (Note - Don't forget to install shipping plugs)
Remove axle from vehicle (Note - Be sure not to damage inner boot if not cracked, If cracked replace whole axle, because inner joint is permanently attached to shaft)

Here we removed both axle shafts, only outer boots where ripped, so we will replace outer boots only.

Cut off boot clamp with diagonal cutters and cut off boot with diagonal cutters.

Support joint with your hand, Use a plastic dead weight hammer and strike the joint in a crosspattern to remove it from the axleshaft.

Wash Joint in solvent until no foreign particles are present. Spray and let drip dry with brake cleaner to remove all traces of solvent.
Inspect if worn, Replace if any free play is present.
New boot kit includes a tube a grease, squeeze this entire tube of grease into the joint.
Slide the smaller CVboot clamp onto the axle. Slide the CV boot on the axle, slide the larger clamp on the CV boot.
Install new circlip on axle, push joint on until it locks in place, check if secure.
Use CV boot clamp pliers to squeeze clamps tight so CV boot will not come loose.
Install new circlip on Transaxle side of CV axle.
Installation of Axle is opposite of removal.
Refill Transaxle lubrication.
