The owner of the Ford Mustang complained of
lack of power. The scanner found the TPS sensor out of range.
Also the throttle plates were found to be
very dirty.
We also checked if there was any leakage
in the Injectors and in the one way check valve by turning on the key on
and then off
and then too see if the pressure would
go down but it didn't.
In this test this is the pressure when
the key is turned in the on position. this test
was found to be a little low.
This test tested the fuel pressure when the
engine was running. It along with the key in the on position
test was also found to be a little low. We
figured that the only reason that all of these tests could be
so low is that the fuel filter could be plugged.
We proceded to check out the filter and sure enough
it was slightly plugged and was to be
replaced.
Another test that we proceded to perform was
the smoke test on the engine with the smoke machine.
I hooked the connector that the smoke comes
out of into the brake booster vacuum supply that goes
into the manifold and into the throttle body.
And after sealing the throttle body air intake we saw
a little stream of smoke come out of the EGR
valve. Although the EGR valve was not very good
it was not the source of the problem.
I pulled out a spark plug to see if we could
Determine anything from that but it looked ok.
When we found that the TPS sensor was out of
range we had to check if it was working so we used the Snap-On
vantage to check . It was really easy to use
because we could bring up what wires go into the connector and tie into
them.
Once we tied into the wires we could see if
the voltage changed when we had wide open throttleand when we slowly moved
the throttle.
Before we Finished we cleared all the codes
from the computer
and found that the engine had more power.
So in the end we replaced
the fuel filter cleaned the throttle plates
and cleared the codes on the computer.
I never thought that using all those computer
tools would do anything but it made the
job alot easier to find the problems and fix
them.
SOME OTHER PROJECTS
This Differential pin came out of a ford Aerostarthat
needed Axle seals and the customer tried to do it himself
but stripped the head on the bolt. from that
point we had to use the torch and cut into the pin that holds the
spider gears in place.
And here is the pin we had to cut into on the
end of it.
Anothe project that I had to dowas axle seals
on a 86 Toyota Corolla rwd.
And as you can see it was leaking really bad
from all the oil on the tire
