  MECHANICS 30 (AUTO 32) COURSE OUTLINE

Auto 32A

 1.   Engine removal and installation
 2.   Engine reconditioning
 3.   Engine recording and measurement
 4.   Engine performance diagnosis
 5.   Engine tuneup (driveability)
 6.   Alternate propulsion systems
 7.   Safety equipment
 8.   Climate control
 9.   Power assisting
10.  Automatic transmission/transaxle service

      This is a theory section that will cover the topics listed above.  Evaluation will be based on assignments and tests.  Assignments will count for 20% of the mark, projects 20%, and tests 60% of the mark.  Assignments will be due on the designated dates - and late assignments will be assessed a mark of 0%.  Projects must be completed by agreed upon deadlines.  If a student misses a test due to illness, etc. - they must inform the office of the absence before 8:45 a.m. on the day of the test.  The student will then be permitted to write the test on their date of return.  Failing to notify the office will result in a test mark of 0%.

 Upon successful completion of this section, students will receive credits in the following CTS modules:
 MEC3030, 3040, 3050, 3060, 3070

Auto 32B

      This section will consist of working in the school shop on customer vehicles, performing repairs to specifications using appropriate tools and equipment.
      Evaluation will be based on 20% for a Daily Log and 80% on a Performance Assessment.

 Upon successful completion of this section, students will receive credits in the following CTS modules:
 MEC3080, 3100, 3110, 3120, 3130

Auto 32C

      This section will consist of work placement with a licensed Technician in the trade.  Students will be placed in an appropriate repair facility and will be expected to adhere to the rules and expectations of the employer.
      Evaluation will be done by the participating employer, based on a performance rating system.  This placement will consist of approximately 125 hours of employment.  Any student who is dismissed for cause will not receive credits for uncompleted time in this section, and will not be permitted to continue in the 32D section.

 Upon completion of the required hours, students will receive credits in the following CTS modules:
 CTR3040, 3050, 3060, 3070, 3080

Auto 32D

      This section will consist of a further 125 hours of time with the participating employer.  If the student is dismissed for cause, they will not receive credits for any uncompleted time.

 Upon completion of the required hours, students will receive credits in the following CTS modules:
 CTR3110, 3120, 3130, 3140, 3150
